Ricky Ponting had a fabulous record in Test cricket as a captain while leading Australia. In the 77 matches as skipper, Ponting won 48 Tests and lost only 16. However, he didn’t have enough fortune to win a game on Indian soil. Ponting was captain of Australia in seven Tests across three tours to India but couldn’t add a win under his bag. In 2004, Australia won the 4-match Test series 2-1 but Ponting was injured in the first three matches.

He recovered to lead the Aussies in the final Test in Wankhede which they lost by 13 runs chasing only 107 to win. He went to lead Australia in the 2008 4-match Test series and the 2-match Test series in 2010 which they lost to the hosts 0-2. Ponting holds the record for most matches as captain on Indian soil without a win to his name. Arjuna Ranatunga also led his side in seven Tests without a win in India.
