The Australian spin wizard Shane Warne has backed Indian captain Virat Kohli to become the best player in the world. The 28-year old will be seen guiding the men in blue at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England and Wales to be played from June 1 to 18. This will be Kohli’s first major assignment as the captain of Indian team, and the eager beaver that he has always been, he will give in his all to collect his first ICC trophy.

While India beat New Zealand and Bangladesh in the warm-ups, the skipper’s real test begins on June 4 when India play arch-rivals Pakistan in Edgbaston.  For Shane Warne, captain Kohli and batsman Kohli outclasses the likes of Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root, and is one of the best in the business across all formats of the game.

“Virat Kohli is best player in the world across the formats. Joe Root from England, Steve Smith from Australia are good players. It is uncanny how many times he has scored a hundred. If he keeps calm, he will be the standout player,” Warne said at the Aaj Tak Salaam Cricket 2017 in London.

Kohli’s outing in Champions Trophy 2013

Fans had high expectations from Virat during the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League in which he captained the Royal Challengers Bangalore. But much to the dismay of fans, Kohli had a below par IPL by his standards and will be determined to perform better at the mega ICC tournament. He finished the IPL with 308 runs from 10 matches at 30.80.

In the Champions Trophy 2013, Kohli had aggregated 176 runs from five matches, including the top score of 58 not out. While not all seems well in the Indian dressing room at the moment, Kohli will be eager to put all his concentration on bringing laurels to the country.
