The IPL 2022 mega auction is all set to get underway in a few days’ time and there came up another interesting story relating to the IPL auction which took place in 2014. Former IPL auctioneer Richard Madley narrated an incident where a bid over former cricketer Yuvraj Singh made RCB owner Vijay Mallya frustrated.

While the bidding process was on during the 2014 auction, RCB were quite sure that they have bagged the services of star player Yuvraj at a massive price of Rs 10 crores. However, it came to the fore that KKR intervened while Madley was just about to bring his hammer down. And as a result, the auctioneer had to give in to KKR’s deal which was higher than that of RCB’s.

All these incidents infuriated Mallya and his team also went on to lodge an official complaint against it. Madley reflected back on these incidents while speaking to ace spinner Ravi Ashwin on his YouTube channel. Talking more on the incident, Madley added that this confusion pushed bidding to start once again wherein RCB ended up giving 4 crores extra to Singh.

Yuvraj Singh didn’t even offer me a cup of tea: former auctioneer

“I looked around the room and asked if everyone was all done now (when the bid was Rs 10 crore). I look all the way and there is nobody bidding. My hammer is up and the hammer came down,” said auctioneer Richard Madley while speaking to Ravi Ashwin on YouTube.

The auctioneer also added that when the bidding reopened, Mallya shouted ‘player is mine!’ and in due process, the former all-rounder was happier to get extra bucks. Ashwin also asked Madley if Yuvraj offered him something for opening the bid again. To this, Madley hilariously added, “not even a cup of tea.”

Talking more in line with the auction process, the upcoming mega auction are all set to go on floors on 12th and 13th February. Around 590 players are all set to go under the hammer in the mega event wherein the IPL 2022 is expected to get underway from March-end.
