The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) came to an end last Sunday, with two months of intense cricketing action culminating in a thrilling final between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Recently, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to show his appreciation for the league.

2018 saw a revamped version of the IPL, with old teams making their way back into the tournament and new features being added. While CSK and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) joined the league after a two-year-long hiatus, a special segment called the “Dugout” was introduced by the broadcasters to cater to the needs of an avid cricket watcher during and after the matches.

This time around, a hyper-personalised segment called the “Dugout” was introduced by the broadcasters Star Sports, in order to satiate cricket lovers all around the globe watching the IPL. The programme was hosted by eminent former cricketers like Anil Kumble, Scott Styris, Daniel Fleming and Brad Hogg. It effectively used graphics and augmented reality to provide in-depth match analysis during and after every match to the views.

Acknowledging his satisfaction with this year’s IPL, Michael Vaughan took to micro-blogging platform Twitter to laud the concept of “Dugout” and also predicted that this genre of analytical programmes will be taken up “across different formats.” He also appreciated the insights that the viewers had received via the segment, owing to the presence of experienced players and coaches on the panel

Here’s what Vaughan tweeted:

IPL 2018, in particular, turned out be a peach of a T20 tournament with nail-biting encounters and all-round performances from major teams. CSK, RR, SRH and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were able to make it to the playoffs. In the end, it was the MS Dhoni-led CSK that clinched their third IPL title, with an 8-wicket victory over SRH in the final game.
