Former Hyderabad skipper Dwaraka Ravi Teja has announced his retirement from First-Class format. The right-handed batter, who played for Hyderabad and Meghalaya in his 16-year long career, thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for providing him the opportunity to represent India U-19 and India A.

Teja made his Ranji debut for Hyderabad against Maharashtra at Karad in 2006. The 34-year-old scored 84 in the only innings of the match. Teja played his last match for Meghalaya earlier this month against Gujarat in Rajkot. The right-handed batter put curtains on his career after playing an outstanding knock of 133 run in the second innings of the match.

After good Ranji season Teja was picked by Deccan Chargers in IPL 2008

As an opener, Teja was a regular feature in the Indian Under-19 team before having a fruitful second Ranji season with Hyderabad. The 34-year-old was the highest run-getter, scoring 653 runs at an average of close to 60. After having a good Ranji outing, Teja was selected by the Deccan Chargers in the inaugural IPL season.

The right-handed batter has played 78 First-Class matches in which he has scored a total of 4722 runs at an average of 41.06. He also has a highest score 204 not out. Teja has 12 centuries and 22 half-centuries. He has also played 85 List A games and scored 2942 runs and 89 T20 matches with 1618 runs under his name.

Taking to Instagram, Teja said, “After having a long and fulfilling career in this wonderful game of cricket, I have decided to retire from First Class cricket and move ahead in a different direction in my career.”

“I would like to thank BCCI for giving me the opportunity to represent India U-19 and India A teams which have been the highlight of my career and which has been an honour and something I would always be proud of,” he said and added,” I am grateful to Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad for all their support. IPL has surely been really a lot of fun, exciting and thrilling. It has been absolutely fantastic to learn from the legends,” he added.
