Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar hogged the limelight for wrong reasons. He has allegedly thrashed his neighbour Deepak Sharma in an inebriated condition and pushed his seven-year-old son. Deepak’s hand has been fractured while his son has suffered a back injury. The Uttar Pradesh Police is investigating the matter and the Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesh Narayan has cleared that appropriate action will be taken.

While explaining the incident, Deepak, the victim, informed that Praveen Kumar came out of his car while he was waiting at the bus stop for his son at around 3 PM and started beating him. He also claimed that the former cricketer was drunk as he abused the bus driver first and then beat him (Deepak) and also pushed his son.

Deepak also went on to say that the police refused to register his complaint as an international cricketer is involved and told him to approach higher authorities.

Police are forcing me to compromise

“I was waiting for my son at the bus stop at 3:00 pm. Kumar arrived at the spot, came out of his car and abused the bus driver first and later abused me. He was in an inebriated condition. Later, he thrashed me and fractured my hand. Kumar also pushed my son who has suffered injury in his back. Now the police are forcing me to compromise. Moreover, I have started receiving death threats,” the victim Deepak Sharma was quoted as saying by Aaj Tak.

SP Akhilesh Narayan, however, has stated that the investigation is currently in progress and the required action will be taken soon. “Both of them are neighbours and they have informed the police about the incident. We are investigating the matter based on their statements. Further action will be taken accordingly. The medical process has also been done,” he said. As of now, Praveen Kumar hasn’t given any statement on the matter.

As far as the former cricketer is concerned, he retired from all forms of the game last year in October. Though he last played in any format in March 2012 and was sidelined since then.
