Indian Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli reckons that MS Dhoni is irreplaceable in limited overs cricket. The former Indian skipper Dhoni has helped the Indian side to excel in world cricket. He is unarguably the most successful captain India has ever had and has won the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and the Champions Trophy as a skipper. His insights from behind the stumps are a bonus to his batting abilities and wicketkeeping skills.

Recently Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai has revealed how much Kohli relies on Dhoni’s cricketing brain in the limited overs set-up. Dhoni monitoring the field placements and guiding the spinners is a common sight in Indian cricket. Even after he stepped down from captaincy he has helped Virat Kohli to lead the side.

When asked about the relationship between the current and former India captains, Rai said that there is mutual respect and they share an exceptional camaraderie. “Their camaraderie is exceptional with so much mutual respect. Virat respects Dhoni’s cricketing acumen and Dhoni respects what Virat is achieving as a player,” Rai was quoted as saying by Economic Times on Sunday.

Why is Dhoni irreplaceable?

Rai further said that Virat Kohli has told the CoA about why Dhoni is irreplaceable. “In fact, Virat has told the CoA why he thinks Dhoni is irreplaceable in the limited overs set up as of now,” he said. The 29-year-old Indian skipper explained to the CoA why Dhoni is an asset to the Indian side.

“Virat feels that there are no faster pair of gloves than MS Dhoni today. Also, Dhoni’s cricketing mind honed over so many years is an asset for Virat. As far as how many years of cricket is left in him, time and his performance will tell,” Rai said.

In 2014, MS Dhoni retired from Test cricket midway through the Australian tour. Virat Kohli was immediately handed over the reigns. Dhoni has guided Virat Kohli on numerous occasions from behind the stumps. The current Indian skipper also uses the help of MS Dhoni for reviews. The 29-year-old has immense respect for the veteran wicketkeeper.
