Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was deemed to be one of the most lethal bowlers Pakistan have ever produced. He was one of the very few fast-bowlers who could move the leather at sheer pace. His deadly Yorkers and bouncers used to ruffle the feathers of the best in the business. He made his international debut in the second Test of Pakistan’s tour of the Windies back in 1997.

Thereafter, the 43-year-old didn’t look back and turned out to be a tormenting factor of the opposition batsmen. Akhtar, popularly known as the Rawalpindi Express by his supporters, played 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is in which he notched 178, 247 and 19 wickets respectively. Albeit his cricketing career was marred by frequent injuries, it spanned a whopping 14 years.

His last appearance for Pakistan was in the 2011 World Cup in the Indian sub-continent when Pakistan locked horns with New Zealand. He was pretty expensive in the match and wasn’t included in the Men in Green’s subsequent contests. Back in 2015, he came back on to the cricket pitch, representing the Sachin Blasters in their match against Warne’s Warriors in the United States.

Akhtar back at his best

Earlier this year, he graced his presence in a couple of matches for the Palace Diamonds in the St. Moritz Ice Cricket tournament in Switzerland. The former speedster is currently involved with the Lahore Qalandar franchise of the Pakistan Super League. He is available as one of the selectors of the team in the T20 event. A number of youngsters were present at the talent hunt drive conducted yesterday.

In the meantime, Shoaib rolled his arms over and showed that he hasn’t run out of gas just yet. He embarked on a long run up and then churned out a good-length delivery. The batsman was cautious while facing the ball and he turned the leather on the leg side with a defensive approach.

Akhtar uploaded a video of the same and was happy to be back to business after a long time. He captioned the clip and wrote, “Here am making a come back for Lahore Qalandar… Bowled after years but loved it.”
