Once, the great Chris Gayle was so impressed with his bowling full of fury that he immediately recommended his name for the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League. For Oshane Thomas, that was the beginning of a journey which has a lot of potential. The 21-year-old hasn’t played too many first-class or List A games so far but he has made a mark in international cricket during the ongoing series against India.
Thomas made his opening signature in international cricket by bowling in-form Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan twice in the two games that he played in the recent five-match ODI series between India and Windies on belters of wickets. His pace was something that really impressed the experts and fans and former Windies fast bowler Tino Best even predicted that a contract for Thomas in the Indian Premier League was on its way soon.
In a tweet, the 37-year-old Best said Thomas is an impact bowler with the new ball and had the Indian batsmen “hopping around”.
Here is Best’s tweet

Thomas had an impressive T20I debut
Thomas had a wonderful spell in his debut T20I at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday as he dismissed both of India’s explosive openers – Rohit Sharma and Dhawan (yet again) after the hosts came out to chase the Windies’ total of 109 in 20 overs.
India took some time to overcome the early blows and eventually won the match by 5 wickets. But Thomas’ performance stood out and he is definitely one of the discoveries for the Caribbeans in this tour. He conceded just 21 runs in his four overs but the team total was too less for the Windies bowlers to make a match out of it.
The two teams will meet in two more games in the three-match series and the Windies, the current world champions, will be banking more on players like Thomas to salvage pride. The IPL franchises zero in on players who have done well on international debut.
In the past, South Africa’s hard-hitting wicket-keeper-batsman Heinrich Klassen was picked by the Rajasthan Royals after his impressive hitting against India. England’s Sam Curran was also under the radar for his performance against India. Is Thomas the next big thing in the IPL?
