Former Zimbabwe head coach, Heath Streak was recently accused of racism in his team selection process. Following the failure of Zimbabwe in the World Cup 2019 qualifiers, Streak along with the entire coaching team was sacked. Days in the wake of expelling the coaching staff – a choice that incited solid sentiment in Zimbabwe, the chairman of ZC Tavengwa Mukuhlani had inferred that some of Streak’s choices depended on bigotry and racism.

Streak and batting mentor Lance Klusener, bowling coach Douglas Hondo, fielding coach Walter Chawaguta, fitness mentor Sean Bell and analyst Stanley Chioza were among the individuals who were sacked in the wake of refusing to resign. Convenor of selectors, Tatenda Taibu, was likewise fired.

Streak dismisses racist charges:

However, Streak strongly dismissed all the accusations of racism. He expelled those charges in the prompt result of them being made, blaming the ZC chairman for making them up. The former Zimbabwe cricketer accused the ZC chairman, Tavengwa Mukuhlani of “clutching at straws”. He also called himself a least racist person ever. Streak is currently in India with the KKR as part of the coaching team.

Heath Streak took to social media to clarify things. Speaking on the allegations, he said: “I’ve been accused by the chairman of ZC of being a racist, I find this preposterous and laughable and even to respond to them for people who know me, is lowering my standards. The allegations that during the WCQ, I dropped black players for white players is also ludicrous.”

“When I dropped people like Kyle Jarvis for Tendai Chisoro nothing was said, but when I dropped Cephas Zhwao for PJ Moor, then I’m a racist. Those who are around me and who know me and are most important to me as in the players can vouch for that. Why do all these people that the chairman claims are accusing me of racism, why do they not come out in public and say that themselves?” he added on Sunday.

The accusation

Earlier the ZC chairman made accusations of racism on Streak. He questioned his team selection, just after sacking him as the head coach. Zimbabwe did not make it to the World Cup 2019 due to which the entire coaching staff was fired. The chairman made comments on Streak speaking to Daily News.

“Streak was the coach and selector, he was entitled to change the team as he found fit but the question is: why did he change the team in the manner that he did? The white players knew PJ Moor was going to play against UAE, but none of the black players knew about it. Cephas Zhuwao was only informed that he wouldn’t play in the warm-up. Why didn’t Streak inform the entire team?” the ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani stated to Daily news.
