Franchises release 61 players for the VIVO IPL 2016 auction

The six regular Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise had the option to retain, release and trade players in the window available between December 15-31, 2015 for the upcoming season of the Indian domestic T20 league. The teams retained as many as 101 players which include 37 overseas players for the IPL 2016.

The bigger news was the big names that were released by the franchises; the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Dinesh Karthik who were among the top buys of the 2014 auction along with Ishant Sharma, Dale Steyn were sent in the auction pool by their respective teams.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) released the most number of players- 14, Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) released 10 players each.

Among the overseas players Kevin Pietersen, Darren Sammy, Ravi Bopara, Ryan ten Doeschate who are all considered T20 specialists will be out in the IPL 2016 auction.
