It's funny when you watch AB bat: Ben Laughlin

"I am alright, I don't mind myself against Dhoni. I reckon I have not got him sorted out but I am comfortable with what I am going to do there," said Laughlin.

Australia speedster Ben Laughlin is currently in India giving his trade in the Indian Premier League. He is on the roster for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The SRH camp boasts of a very good bowling lineup. With such good bowling lineup at hand, it is tough for someone like Laughlin to make the cut in the starting eleven. Despite this, the Adelaide Strikers pacer is keeping himself motivated for the tournament.

As per the quotes in FirstPost, Ben Laughlin said it is important to keep oneself ready as a match can come up anytime. He had played for the Chennai Superkings prior to this and had got very few opportunities. In the limited opportunities that he got, he failed to make a mark. He noted that sitting out of the lineup is quite challenging and can be disappointing at times. However, at the SRH camp, he has the likes of Kane Williamson and Chris Jordan who keep his spirits high.

“When I was with CSK, I probably switched off a bit and I was disappointed with myself. I actually did eventually get a game but I wasn’t sharp as I thought I should be. So that’s going to be a challenge this time, to stay really motivated throughout the whole tournament. It’s good having the other guys on the bench and we can sort of challenge each other. It’s nice to have Kane (Williamson) and (Chris) Jordan bounce things off each other and keep driving each other with our training which is really good,” quoted Ben Laughlin.

“We’ve had a comparatively slow first week but there are a lot of games in the next couple of weeks. It’s like you are only one injury away sort of a thing. But having said that, our bowling attack is amazing. Hopefully, we keep winning. And if I do get I chance, I would love to get out there. But with Fizz (Mustafizur Rahman) coming in, it’s going to be awesome to see him bowling with Rashid. So it’s a pretty good squad,” he added further.

Laughlin is regarded as a good death bowler. He was asked how would he bowl to certain batsmen at the death overs. Before the interviewer could complete his question, Laughlin quipped with an answer saying he has no clue how to bowl to AB de Villiers. He said that the Proteas superstar is the best in the business and can hit the bowlers anywhere in the park.

“Don’t say AB….don’t lean on to that (laughs). It’s funny when you watch AB bat,” you sort of go…Ah! I might do this and then you do that and he hits it for six and you go Uh! Okay, I might start again and try something else. He is just phenomenal. But AB was my first wicket, he just hit one to cover. It was a bad shot. It wasn’t great bowling,” quoted the pacer as he laughed.

Answering the same question in regard to MS Dhoni, Laughlin mentioned that he had a pretty decent go at Dhoni in the net sessions during his playing days with the Chennai Super Kings. However, he did mention that there were times when Dhoni smashed him out of the park as well.

“I have spent a bit of time with Dhoni at CSK and had a lot of net bowling at him. It went okay in some net session. But other times he hit me into the stands. So little bit of learning there. I won’t give away too many secrets in case we have to bowl against him in Pune (Laughs). I am alright, I don’t mind myself against Dhoni. I reckon I have not got him sorted out but I am comfortable with what I am going to do there,” conceded Ben Laughlin.
