The race for the role of the head coach for Indian Women’s team is getting quite intense. However, Gary Kirsten, who was considered to be one of the front-runners for the job is out of the equation. This comes off as the former Proteas cricketer declined to leave his job with the RCB. He was appointed the head coach of the franchise a few months ago replacing Daniel Vettori.

There was a lot of confusion created due to the conflict of interest rules when Kirsten applied for the job. But, a BCCI spokesperson has made things clear just a day ahead of the auction. Also, it was informed that there were no conflicts with the other candidates who applied for the job.

“A total of 28 candidates have applied for the women’s coach job but Kirsten has been ruled as ineligible because he has refused to give up his position with RCB. There are no other conflicts with other candidates at the moment,” a BCCI source close to the development was quoted saying as per the reports in CricketNext.

Kirsten is the RCB coach and he will continue to remain coach till the end of the season at least,” an RCB spokesperson informed.

Gibbs, Prasad the front-runners

The interviews for the job of head coach will be held on December 20 now. With Gary Kirsten now ruled out, Herschelle Gibbs and Venkatesh Prasad are the front-runners for the job. Along with this duo, WV Raman is also leading the race who was with India Emerging side for the Asia Cup recently and the team made it to the final.

“Among the applicants, Gibbs, (Venkatesh) Prasad and (WV) Raman should be favourites for the job. But the ad-hoc committee will take the final call after the interviews on December 20,” the source confirmed.

Depending on the profile and experience of the person selected, the BCCI is ready to offer a hefty paycheque for the job. It is expected that the head coach will be paid around INR 3 to 4 crores. The interviews will be held by an ad-hoc committee that features Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy.
