Virat Kohli, ever since he made his international debut, has taken giant strides. En route his illustrious career, the Delhi-batsman has smashed several records and has only grown in stature over the years. Such has been his dominance that comparisons have been drawn between him and Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian batsman.

The Delhi-born batsman has also been a part of the Indian squad when India lifted the 50-over World Cup in India after 28 years in 2011. During the tournament, he played under the tutelage of Gary Kirsten and he is currently playing under him as well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Recently, the former Proteas batsman talked about his confidence on the Indian skipper ever since he started playing cricket.

“Question of when”- Gary Kirsten

“It is great to be working with Virat again because he started when I was the coach. We had a lot of conversations early in his career about how he needs to set up his game. We knew he was going to be a great player, it was just a question of when and how he needed to play to be able to achieve the consistency in his game” Kirsten was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with the Times of India.

Virat Kohli’s hunger for runs is an open secret, which has only escalated with the passage of time. The right-hander has scored runs across the globe and is currently an indispensable member of the Indian team. During the chat, Kirsten also brought forth the attributes of Virat Kohli which made him stay head and shoulders above his counterparts.

“Any guy with half a cricket eye would have known that he was going to be a great player. His hunger for runs, his ball-striking ability – we are talking 2008 – he hit the ball to all parts of the ground, got natural power and then the determination to go with it. He had the hunger to be great. It was all there. That’s one of the easier recruitments you could make,” the RCB batting mentor added.
