Delhi Daredevils’ new captain Gautam Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL trophies, has revealed how he plans to use Chris Morris in the 2018 IPL and also drew a comparison with how he used the South African all-rounder with Andre Russell in KKR. Gambhir, one of the most successful IPL captains, highlighted how both the all-rounders were used differently.
Gambhir explained how Morris is a better all-rounder than Russell, highlighting that the Windies batsman bowls much slow than Morris. However, when talking about their batting, Gambhir said that Russell’s batting is better than Morris’.
“Morris is a quality all-rounder and a better and much quicker bowler than Andre Russell. Russell is a little bit of a better batsman, he can change the game more consistently with the bat. But with Morris, I felt he has batted lower than he should have. He hasn’t had enough opportunity,” Sportskeeda quoted Gambhir as saying.
“But for a game changer to make a change in the game you need to give him enough opportunity as well. At times we have pushed Russell to bat at number 3 and 4 depending on what the situation is. If you have wickets in hand, you rather push someone after the 10 overs.
“Delhi has played him at number 6-7, which is lower than where he should be batting at because he’s a proper batsman. Moreover, he can also bowl in the powerplay and in the last 4 overs,” he added.
Delhi Daredevils have never won the IPL
The Delhi Daredevils, for the first few seasons of the tournament, remained the perennial wooden-spooners. It was only two seasons ago that they came up with better performances. This year, under Gambhir’s captaincy and Ricky Ponting’s coaching, the franchise will be hoping to turn the table around and lift their maiden silverware. IPL 11 begins on April 7 in Mumbai.
