Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was thought to be among the most talked and bragging Indian players featuring in the IPL auctions list and there were also some rumours doing the rounds that he might be retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) through the Right To Match Card option.

But the southpaw was eventually bagged by his hometown nation IPL franchise, Delhi Daredevils (DD) at a decent amount of  Rs 2.8 crores and KKR also once again ignored to bring him back. Gambhir expressed his excitement and joy of playing for the Delhi team in the upcoming season and promised to take the team towards greater heights.

He has played for the KKR for a long time almost 7 years in which he led his side towards a winning season twice in  2012 and 2014 and has been a consistent performer for them as an opening batsman over the years. In the period between 2008-2010, Gambhir featured in the Delhi Daredevils after parting ways and being bought by KKR. The experienced Indian cricketer is also likely candidate to lead his new IPL team, as DD would surely be considering him for the leadership role.

Gambhir hopes to make Delhi a champion team

Keeping in mind his credentials and numbers in the competition, Gambhir would surely be strengthening the top order of the Delhi team. He thanked all his KKR fans for providing him with the desired support in all these seven years and has certainly enjoyed his time with the franchise. But at the same time, the Delhi boy is looking forward to be back in his first and foremost home team. The opener is very much happy to be back home and wishes to make DD a champion side in the upcoming IPL season.

“Thanks @kkr for all d support. Will miss Kolkata and Eden. Now, time to try and turn it around for @DelhiDaredevils @IPL. Happy to be back…” Gambhir wrote on his Twitter handle expressing his views on being bought by DD in the auctions, along with an emotional message for his KKR army.
