Veteran Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has always been very vocal about his support to the Indian army. Time and again, he has shown that he is a true patriot and has come up with numerous messages in the favor of the country and the Indian army. A year ago, in the month of April, an ambush attack from the Naxalites on the CRPF in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, had taken the country by a storm.

The attack claimed lives of 25 CRPF officers and was described as the worst Naxal attack in the country. Gautam Gambhir had condemned the attack and had announced that he will bear the cost of the education of the martyrs of the attack. After a year, Gambhir visited the families of four such martyrs – Inspector Raghubir Singh, ASI Sanjay Kumar, and Head Constables Banna Ram and Ram Mehar Sandhu.

The dinner was organized by the Gautam Gambhir Foundation in Delhi on Thursday. The family members of the martyrs were extremely delighted to meet the cricketing star. The children of the martyrs thanked Gambhir for all the support that he has extended. Ajay, son of late Head Constable Banna Ram, quoted, “I cannot describe this in words. He has done so much for us, and to meet him in person is great.”

“My father was a huge fan of yours and always watched when you and (Virender) Sehwag opened the batting for India. He would have been happy to know that his family has had the chance to meet you,” Rohit, son of late Head Constable Ram Mehar Sandhu, told Gautam Gambhir as per the reports in Times of India.

Gambhir willing to spread the smile

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir also expressed his thoughts over the meeting. He remarked that the army officers have done so much for the country. It gives him joy to do as much as he can do for the army officers and their family members. He is keen on spreading the smile.

“Obviously, it’s very emotional because you meet people who lost their dear ones and you try to spread as much happiness as you can. It is very tough what they have gone through, but whatever little enjoyment you can give them from their own front, you try and do that, and support them as much as you can,” Gautam Gambhir quoted.
