Gautam Gambhir Tweets ‘I don’t believe in biopics on cricketers’

Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has been in the news in the last couple of weeks. First with the speculations and anticipation of his selection in the Indian Test team for the home series against New Zealand, then for his batting and captaincy – as India Blue won the Duleep Trophy 2016 but when the selectors decided to go in with regular opener Shikhar Dhawan and avoided making any changes in the squad they were criticized for overlooking Gambhir despite consistent and substantial performances in the domestic circuit.

Soon after the team was announced he tweeted – ‘I’m disappointed but not defeated; I’m cornered but not a coward. Grit my partner, courage my pride…for, I must fight, I must fight…’ and followed it up with another tweet with a picture of a practice session with the caption – ‘Remember the guy who gave up ? Neither does anyone else!’

It clearly suggests that he considered himself to be in the fray for the spot in the team but when he was ignored yet again the southpaw made sure he sent a message that he wasn’t yet out of the competition and was pretty much ready to fight until he achieves the target he has set for himself.

Today the Delhi skipper posted another picture on twitter; it wasn’t about the team but about biopics on cricketers. The biopic of India’s limited-overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, ‘MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’ is to release in a couple of weeks while that of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar is also slated to hit the silver screen this year. With biopics of two cricketers in the tube, the media has been asking most cricketers they come across to name someone who they feel deserves a biopic as well. A lot of them suggest Yuvraj Singh as the other candidate.

Gambhir in the tweet quoted himself saying, “I don’t believe in biopics on cricketers. I think those people, who have contributed more to the country than the cricketers, deserve a biopic. There are lots of people in the country who have done so many noble deeds for the nation. Therefore biopics should be made on their lives,”
