Gautam Gambhir uses a cheeky Mankad reference in his daughter’s birthday post

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been in the limelight for quite some time now. He has been speaking his mind out and has been vocal about almost everything. Be it cricket, politics or the armed forces, Gambhir has always been at the forefront in putting out his thoughts on social media. After the Pulwama attacks, he was very vocal about the delicate situation between India and Pakistan and the cricket connection between the two nations.

Gambhir also wanted India to boycott the game against Pakistan in this World Cup as he felt the attacks in Pulwama was unacceptable. He recently joined the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and won the Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi. The former Delhi player and World Cup winner has been commentating as well for this World Cup.

Gambhir’s wishes his daughter cheekily as elder daughter Mankads her younger sibling

GG has two daughters, Aazeen and Anaiza. 20th June is the birthday of Aazeen, the younger of the two. Gambhir sent out a cheeky tweet and posted a picture of his two daughters with the birthday cake.

He made a reference to an infamous mode of dismissal in cricket which gained a bit of attention in the recent past, Mankading. It is essentially running the non-striker out if he/she leaves the crease before the ball is delivered (in the delivery stride). In short, the non-striker is run out for backing up too far. Ravichandran Ashwin did that a couple of months ago. He ran Jos Buttler for backing up too far during the IPL earlier this year.

Mankading is generally referred to as a mode of dismissal which is against the spirit of the game. Hence, Gambhir put out that reference as well.

“OMG! Looks like my elder one Aazeen (in background) has MANKADED my little b’day girl Anaiza (in foreground). Come on Aazeen u can’t pluck that cake, it’s against the spirit of the game!!! And Anaiza are you getting ready to box didi out? What’s happening @natashagambhir2,” Gambhir tweeted along with the picture.
