A lot of questions were raised on Australia’s cricketing culture when the ball-tampering scandal surfaced in Cape Town in 2018. The likes of Steve Smith and David Warner were banned by Cricket Australia for 12 months while Cameron Bancroft was suspended for six months. Moreover, the matter led to many people in CA stepping down from their respective positions following the review for the team culture.
No wonder, the behaviour of the Australian players were always under the scanner despite the amount of success they achieved on the field. And Glenn Maxwell’s conduct while with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the earlier seasons has been revealed.
In a Mumbai Mirror report, it has been revealed that the Aussie all-rounder used to suddenly disappear in the nights breaking the protocols and play golf in the mornings. Moreover, it has also been reported that Maxwell used to come in the nets only in the evening.
Kevin Pietersen used to sulk about Glenn Maxwell’s fee
The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had secured Glenn Maxwell’s services in the IPL 2014 auction for a whopping amount of Rs 6 crore. The report also added that the Aussie cricketer threw something at the KXIP head coach Sanjay Bangar‘s back when the latter was giving an interview near the dugout during one of the matches.
His actions irked the commentator taking an interview who had asked Bangar to tell Glenn Maxwell to behave himself. Also, it has been reported that Kevin Pietersen used to sulk over the amount the 31-year-old got in the auction.
As far as the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season is concerned, Maxwell was bagged by the KXIP itself in the auction last year. Delhi Capitals and KXIP were engaged in a bidding war to secure his services and eventually, the latter won the battle splurging a whopping Rs 10.75 crore for him.
However, the IPL contract of all the players is in trouble as of now with the COVID-19 wrecking havoc across the world. The BCCI has suspended the tournament until April 15 as of now and with all the cricketing action getting called off, chances are bleak that the competition will go ahead this year.
