The former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath has lavished praises on the current England One-Day International side. They recently trounced Australia in the five-match series down under by 4-1. More then the series victory, it was the way in which they annihilated the home side. Every time they were in trouble, a new player put his hand up to bail the team out of the hole. However, McGrath also tipped England as the favourites for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.

Ben Stokes is not in the team currently and they would be boosted with his return soon. England were knocked out of the last edition of the World Cup in the first round itself after which they decided to change their approach towards ODI cricket completely. Three years down the line, they are being tipped as one of the best outfits the country has ever had in the history of their cricket.

Pigeon praises England ODI side

Glenn McGrath, in his column for the Daily Mail, expressed that England are the favourites to win the World Cup next year and also lavished praises on them. “From what I have seen of England’s one-day cricket recently, you would have to make them favourites for next year’s World Cup. They have won 19 of their last 22 one-day internationals and if they can continue the way they are going, maintaining that win ratio, keeping the energy with which they play and the same personnel together, they are going to be hard to beat, especially on home soil,” he wrote.

However, he also cautioned Eoin Morgan led side against peaking too early ahead of the marquee event. “One word of caution, though: if their planning phase has begun, as appears the case, now is not the time to peak. England face a challenge not just to stay at this level but to get better over the next 12 months,” he added.
