Shreyas Iyer, the right-handed batsman played a swashbuckling knock in the series decider against Bangladesh in Nagpur on Sunday. The young Indian player took the charge when India was struggling after losing both their openers at a score of 35. Later on, an exceptional effort from the bowlers helped India in sealing the T20I series. And, after the match, the 24-year-old came out with some revelations that can delight Indian fans.

The Mumbai-born batsman amassed 62 runs off just 33 deliveries with five monstrous sixes and three boundaries. and also stitched a partnership with KL Rahul of 59 odd runs. However, the Karnataka batsman got out after scoring fifty but, Iyer was in no mood to spear the bowlers as he smashed three consecutive maximums against Afif Hossain. His ferocious knock came to an end on a mistimed shot against Soumya Sarkar that was caught by Liton Das.

Shreyas Iyer’s revelations in the press conference

After the match in the press conference, Iyer said that the team management has given him heads up that he will play on number four position. He also recited the fact that if Indian openers and Virat Kohli get out early then someone needs to finish the game and he tried that against Bangladesh in the third T20I that worked for him.

“For me personally, they (team management) have given me a heads up that ‘You’ll be there at No.4. So just back yourself and believe in yourself’. Even if Kohli and Rohit get out, we need someone to finish the game and bat till the end.’ That is a No. 4’s role. That’s what I was trying to replicate today and it worked out really well for me,” Shreyas Iyer told as quoted by Deccan Chronicle.

The innings coming from young Indian cricketer might have given a sigh of relief to the Indian selectors as they were in search of a batsman that can play at number four position for long. Team India tried many players at that position but everyone failed to cement their place in the team. However, Iyer might be the best player in order to play at the most debatable spot in the team.
