Sanju Samson hit the headlines after he scored his maiden double ton against Goa in Alur in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20. He got his best knock in List A cricket at the right time that earned him spot in Team India squad for the Bangladesh T20I series.

There were certain claims made in the past about Samson being the first-choice wicketkeeper for India but preference was given to Rishabh Pant in order to replace MS Dhoni in the limited-overs format. But, on 24th October, BCCI picked Samson for the Bangladesh T20I series looking forward to his sublime form in the domestic tournament.

Gautam Gambhir looks happy with Sanju Samson’s selection

His 212-run know against Goa helped him to break multiple records in a row. He eclipsed Pakistan’s Abid Ali’s 209* to score the highest-ever List A score by a wicketkeeper in a match. Samson also registered the third-highest List A score in India and fourth by an Indian.

After the inclusion of Rajasthan Royals player, cricketing fraternity came out in support of Sanju and poured loads of wishes on him but the message that tops the list was from none other than former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir.

Former World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir congratulated 24-year-old on the special occasion and feels that his long hard work has finally paid off for him. The former cricketer took to his Twitter handle and wrote a special message for Samson, “This is well & truly through the gap by @IamSanjuSamson. Congratulations on being picked in the T20 squad. Soft hands, nimble feet and hopefully a sane head…go Sanju grab ur moment, long overdue. @BCCI,”

Here is the tweet

In Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20, he has amassed 410 runs in eight games at a brilliant average of 58.57. Before his selection in Indian team, Sunil Gavaskar had also opined over the fact that if India looks beyond Rishabh Pant then Kerala’s Sanju Samson will be the perfect pick, “If I need to have an alternate option, then I will think of Sanju Samson because Sanju is a good keeper as well as a good batsman,” Gavaskar said as quoted by India Today.
