Graeme Smith, the former South African skipper, has lashed out at Smith for his decision to take rest midway through the ODI series against Sri Lanka, saying that he certainly didn’t expect it from any Australian captain, especially the ones he played against.

As Sri Lanka won the 2nd One Day International to level the series 1-1, Cricket Australia released a statement that Steve Smith has pulled out of the tour for a break and that David Warner will be leading the Aussie side for the remainder of the series. Smith had been the captain for the side that got whitewashed in Tests and for the first two ODIs.

This news came as a shock to the cricketing universe considering the strange decision to pull out of the tour midway. Over the past few days, Steve Smith has been heavily criticised by the media as well as some of the former cricketers.

The cricketing fraternity didn’t take that well with many former cricketers questioning his decision to leave the team midway through the ongoing ODI series. Dean Jones and Mahela Jayawardene also questioning Smith’s commitment. Steve Smith’s predecessor, Michael Clarke, also wasn’t amused with his decision to rest.

South Africa’s pace bowling spearhead Dale Steyn went a step ahead that others and tried to mock Smith by responding Behardien in a hilarious way. Here’s a look at what he tweeted.

Cricket Australia and Head coach Darren Lehmann have justified his decision completely. Lehmann stated that Smith needed to be fresh before the start of the South Africa series which Australia are set to play after the end of the Sri Lanka tour. But with the tour more than a month away, Smith returning back after featuring in the ODI side for the first two games makes less sense.
