Former South African cricketer Graeme Smith believes that Virat Kohli is the best player in the World currently. He has shattered one record after another on the tour and has scored four centuries so far leading from the front for his team. The skipper was in sublime touch especially in ODI series which India won 5-1 handsomely and would love to end the tour on a high by trumping the home side in the shortest format of the game.
Kohli has so far amassed a staggering 871 runs on the tour with the third T20 International to be played on Saturday. He would be itching to smash at least a half-century before leaving the rainbow nation. Also, he is due for a big knock after enduring a couple of failures in two matches of the series with the scores of 26 and 1.
His own game has been incredible
Graeme Smith, who earlier questioned Virat Kohli as a long time captain of India, has showered praises on him now for the way he has batted and led the Men in Blue. “I was a little worried in the Test series, in game one and two. I thought his emotions were getting the better of him and maybe that was starting to impact the players around him,” he said in an interview to ESPN Cricinfo.
The 37-year-old also believed that he got himself under control at the right time and raised his game a notch. “But I think he’s got himself under control. His own game has been incredible. He’s led from the front, he’s given India the mindset that they can play away from home, that they want to be here and in tough conditions. That is key and he’s led the way. As long as India stay on top, he’s going to be hugely successful,” he added.
Smith also opined that the challenge for him would be when the team will under pressure for a long time and also termed Kohli as the best player in the world. “I think the challenge for him as India’s best player is if India get under pressure for a long period of time, how would that affect his batting? But at the moment he is looking sublime. Best player in the world,” he concluded.
