Former South African skipper Graeme Smith feels that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli will have a big role to play in the upcoming India’s tour to South Africa. Team India has had a terrific run across all the three formats of the game in the last couple of seasons. However, many pundits feel that the strong side is yet to be tested.
The primary reason that comes out for this is the fact that India is yet to register a big win in tough overseas conditions. Now, with the South Africa tour coming up, the test is all set to be taken. Graeme Smith, as per the recent quotes in IBTimes, stressed on the very same fact. He mentioned that India has won in the subcontinent under Virat Kohli. Now, they need to register wins in South Africa.
“I think that is the next challenge for this Indian team under Kohli. They have won a lot of series in the subcontinent and if they want to go up to be one of the top teams of this generation, they will have to do well in South Africa,” quoted Graeme Smith.
India could be in an iconic place
Adding further on the same note, Graeme Smith noted that the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, will surely be hugely motivated to have a big 2018 calendar year. In the year 2017, Kohli amassed the highest number of runs across the three formats. Smith, who recently spoke about the top three of Indian batting winning matches for them, said that overseas wins could put India in an iconic place.
“I know for sure that Virat will be hugely motivated to have a big year. If they can go on to have a 2018 where they win in South Africa, England and Australia, that will put this Indian team in an iconic place,” mentioned Smith.
