Vidarbha pacer, Umesh Yadav, was the standout bowler in the recently concluded match against Kings XI Punjab. The seamer, after playing the shorter format of the game after a long time, showed no indication of rust and continued his good form with the ball by taking four important wickets within a short span of time, breaking the backbone of the Kings XI batting lineup.

Umesh Yadav was also the standout performer amongst all the seamers in the grand home season of Test cricket for the Indian. Umesh took 25 wickets in 11 Test matches, creating havoc in the opposition’s camp with his pace and bounce. He also played the most number of test matches amongst all the bowlers and bowled over 300 overs, thereby displaying his fitness and endurance.

However, ‘The Strongman’ of Indian Cricket credited his good work with the ball in the recent match for the KKR to the continuous resilience he had to display during the grand home series. “This is all due to my hard work. In the last 8-10 months I am playing continuously (for the Indian team). The more you bowl the better you become,” as quoted as saying by oneindia.com.

He went on to state that the more one bowls during match situations, his control over his line and length become correct. “It’s like a bowler’s line and length is sorted with regular bowling. I think, the number of matches I have played has helped me better my line and length. Now I have come to know my strong points and the areas I need to bowl to,” added the seamer from Vidarbha. Yadav also credited the auspicious guidance from Anil Kumble and Sanjay Bangar in terms of technicalities of the run-up to help him bring control over his bowling at pace.

“In the last 10 months, our coaches Sanjay Bangar, Anil (Kumble, chief coach) sir who have a fair amount of idea about bowling have helped me a lot. Sanjay sir had told me that when you run in to bowl, sometimes you run faster than required in order to bowl faster. Then you risk the chance of disturbing your line and length. You should enjoy you run up which will help you bring control to your bowling.” he further added. 29-year old Umesh Yadav always had the pace to terrify the batsmen but often used to be wayward with his line and length. Yadav also enjoyed bowling on the freshly-relayed track at the Edens Gardens which offers carry and bounce with a tinge of grass on it.

“The wicket is very good. There was a lot of carry and bounce so it helps the fast bowlers. The conditions were good too. You don’t get such wickets in Test cricket very easily” said the fast bowler was accustomed to bowling on dustbowls at Eden gardens previously.

With 6 matches to go at Eden Gardens and Umesh Yadav in prime form, all the other teams will be wary of the decimation the player can cause and as a result, he will be a key player to watch out for. KKR are set to host the Sunrisers on April 15.
