IPL 2022, GT vs RR Qualifier 1: Head to Head, Playing XI, Preview, Where to Watch on TV, Online, and Live Streaming Details
Both GT and RR will be fighting for a place in the final.
The Gujarat Titans will be locking horns with the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24. The winner goes through to the final while the loser gets a second shot for a place in the summit clash by competing with the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2 on May 27.
The Titans were given a wake-up call by an eight-wicket loss to the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league fixture and they would be hoping to click as a unit as they hope to make a maiden final appearance. The Royals, on the other hand, have been on a roll, with 24-run and five-wicket victories over the Lucknow Super Giants and the Chennai Super Kings respectively. RR have reached the playoffs for the first time after the 2018 edition.
The inclement weather conditions in Kolkata are expected to play a spoilsport in the playoff matches. Unlike the final, there are no reserve days for both qualifiers or the Eliminator. Therefore, should this contest be washed out, GT will progress to the decider since they are the table-toppers.
Pitch and conditions
The teams have preferred chasing in evening fixtures after winning the toss considering the dew factor later on in the contest. However, the surface at the Eden Gardens often plays on the slower side, which could make batting extremely difficult in the second innings. Both teams have world-class spinners in their arsenal and the captain that calls it right at the toss would prefer to bat first.
Playing combinations for GT vs RR
The Gujarat Titans might prefer making a couple of changes for this crucial encounter. Veteran stumper Wriddhiman Saha had a hamstring concern during the league game against CSK and he did not keep wickets against RCB. Meanwhile, it also remains to be seen whether an underfire Matthew Wade would be benched and youngster Rahmanullah Gurbaz would be handed over his maiden cap.
Predicted Playing XI: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Matthew Wade/Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, R Sai Kishore, Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal
The Rajasthan Royals will not be interested in making any changes in a winning combination. Nonetheless, they would be hoping that their star opener Jos Buttler manages to regain form.
Predicted Playing XI: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Obed McCoy, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna
