The Gujarat Lions had made a roaring start to their IPL campaign last year. One of the two new teams, the Lions, had managed to impress everyone with their consistent showing in the 2016 edition of the IPL. The other newbie, Rising Pune Supergiants, had struggled to get their act together. However, despite facing odds of having a whole new squad to gel up, the GL made it to the playoffs of the tournament. They were certainly one of the most dynamic sides and had a dream run.

With the 2017 edition of the IPL coming up, the Gujarat franchise is leaving no stone unturned in their bid to better their performances. They are aiming to beef up their squad and have been working closely on it. In one of the most recent appointments made, the franchise has roped in the services of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif. Kaif has been appointed as the new assistant coach of the team.

During his playing days, Kaif was a wonderful fielder and had set the early benchmarks in the fielding department. He was a handy middle-order batsman who is best known for his match winning knock at the Lords’ in Natwest final 2002.

In a recent tweet by their official social media handle, the franchise wrote, “News: @MohammadKaif has been appointed as the new assistant coach of @TheGujaratLions. Let’s welcome him with a huge ROAR!  #GameMaariChhe.”

Needless to add, they are keeping an eye on all possible combinations for their team. They were in news a week ago for showing interest in English all-rounder Ben Stokes in the IPL auctions this year. It will be interesting to see how the Gujarat Lions fare up in this edition of the tournament. Their future from the next edition of the tournament remains uncertain.
