The Indian Premier League (IPL) might reach out to more fans as Indore, Guwahati and Lucknow are in the fray to be added as the venues in 2018. The Governing Council of IPL is slated to meet in New Delhi today and there are chances that the members might discuss over the few new venues. The need of the new venues arose as Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab wrote to the board seeking a change of their bases from Jaipur and Mohali respectively.

Lucknow is the constituency of the chairman of the league, Rajeev Shukla and the Ekana International Stadium recently hosted the day-night games of the recently concluded Duleep Trophy. The feedback of the facilities and the ground was positive from the players and it is expected that Kings XI Punjab franchise might be asked to shift their base in the city. However, they played in Indore last year and were also happy with the proceedings there. Apparently, the KXIP management was asked to inspect the facilities in Ekana Stadium.

Royals might prefer Guwahati

Guwahati recently hosted a T20 International between India and Australia in October which was won by the visiting team. While everyone was happy with the newly-built Stadium, the occasion was marred by the rock attack on the Australian team bus soon after the game. But the Rajasthan Royals who are not comfortable playing in Jaipur might be happy to move to Guwahati to play their home games next year.

There are also few other points on the agenda for the meeting among which the Women’s IPL is on the top. Also, the BCCI will decide on the legal matter relating to the Chennai Super Kings team. A policy decision on the retention and salary cap is also expected to be taken during the meeting. The franchises have already requested the board to allow them to retain few players for the next edition of the lucrative league.
