Hanuma Vihari picks the best opening batsman in ODIs

Hanuma Vihari, the Indian batsman, has joined the bandwagon of the ones, who have been conducting Question and Answer session on Twitter. With no cricketing action around due to the massive coronavirus pandemic, the fans are deprived of action on the field of play. Hence, some of the cricketers have found out ways to stay connected to their admirers around the world.

Earlier, the likes of Tom Moody, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and many others held Q&A sessions and now it’s Vihari’s turn. One of the supporters asked him to make a choice between Australian batter David Warner and Rohit Sharma, the vice-captain of India’s limited-overs teams.

Asking the question, a fan on Twitter wrote, “Best Odi opener according to you rohit sharma or david warner.” The choice was expected to be a tough one since both of them have been stupendous in the 50-over format of the game. But Vihari was brisk in zeroing in on Rohit.

In the first-half of his career, Rohit was deemed to be brash as he used to throw his wickets away after getting his eyes in. However, after he started opening in the 2013 Champions Trophy in England, the Nagpur-born has grown leaps and bounds. In the previous edition of the World Cup, Rohit became the first to notch five centuries in a single edition of the mega event.

He also has as many as three double centuries in the ODI format. He is 33, but is speculated to break quite a few records going into the future. He has developed himself into a batter, who can convert the starts after getting the measure of the conditions. Warner, on the other hand, has been no pushover either. Back in 2018, he slapped with a suspension due to the ball-tampering saga.

But he made a fairy-tale comeback in the 2019 World Cup. Along with skipper Aaron Finch at the top of the order, the left-hander kept wreaking havoc. With 5,267 runs at a more than decent average of 45.80, the southpaw has given opponents significant headaches. Both Rohit and Warner are also two of the leading run-scorers in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
