Hanuma Vihari proud to represent his national team

Vihari became the first player for Andhra Pradesh to find his place in the national team after MSK Prasad.

Hanuma Vihari forayed into the Indian domestic scene when he made his debut for Hyderabad in a Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand in Ranchi. Thereafter he represented the India U19 team, which won the 2012 World Cup under the leadership of Unmukt Chand. He couldn’t make much of an impact and scored only 71 runs in six matches with a highest score of 31.

As far as his first-class career is concerned he made a move to Andhra Pradesh back in 2015 and is currently an integral part of their batting lineup. The right-handed batsman has played 63 first-class matches in which he has scored 5142 runs at an average of 59.79. He also boasts of 15 tons and 24 half-centuries with a highest score of 302 against Odisha last year.

Vihari keen to play for India

Recently, he played a limited-overs series followed by four four-day matches against England Lions and Windies ‘A’. In the 50-overs triangular series, Vihari scored 253 runs in three matches at an average of 84.33. He also scored a superlative 147 in Northampton against Windies ‘A’. The Andhra Pradesh-born batsman also played in India ‘A’s two-match unofficial series against South Africa ‘A’.

He churned out a knock of 148 in the second match in Alur. To multiply his joy, the 24-year old batter has been rewarded with a berth in India’s 18-man Test squad for the fifth and final Test against England. Vihari also became the first player for Andhra Pradesh to find a place in the national team after MSK Prasad, the national chief selector.

Following his selection, he was elated and expressed his eagerness to play under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Lately, he took to Twitter and showed his pride to don the national colours. He wrote, “Always proud to represent my country around the world! #IndiaCalling #ENGvIND #testcricket”
