Former Indian legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh stressed on the need of building a team for the 2019 edition of the Cricket World Cup, following India’s loss at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan by a margin of 180 runs.

The current Indian team is built around the top-order dominance, with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan leading the team up front with Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni to follow with the platform set by the Indian openers. Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya are entrusted with the job of finishing the innings with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to follow.

The offie further said that the entire team must be aligned with the thoughts and mindset of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, in a similar manner to the 2011 World Cup squad which was on the same page as with the then skipper MS Dhoni.

“The brand of cricket we wanted to play, we played in glimpse but not to win the championship. To win the championship, you have to have the 11 players think the same way, like Virat Kohli, thinks.” said, the off-spinner to India Today on the players thinking in the same manner as the skipper Virat Kohli.

Supporting the captain

“The more people you have out there to support the captain and believe that we can change the course of the game and win the game from any situation. To have that we’ll have to work hard. I am talking of radical changes but whoever is good enough, should be there.” added the offie when asked about how games could be changed with the hard work.

India would be looking forward to assembling a squad, which could bring the coveted World Cup back home, following the disappointing 2015 World Cup down under at Australia. In the 2015 edition hosted by Australia, India lost in the semi-finals to the hosts by a huge margin to leave them shocked following which MS Dhoni stepped down to hand the captaincy to Virat Kohli.
