The Indian Team boarded the flight to South Africa with a lot of expectations. The visitors are world No.1 in ICC rankings, so many expected them to give a good fight to the home team. The critics were apprehensive about Indian team’s record overseas and the fears came true as India lost first two Tests. Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh has come out and said that India should play on sporting pitches at home in order to do well overseas.

Need to look at bigger picture

Harbhajan Singh pointed out that three-day Test matches don’t serve the purpose. He said that while it is important to look for wins and results but Indian team management should try to look at the bigger picture.

“Three day Tests will not solve the purpose. You will get a lot of results and wins, but it’s also important to make the team work harder to see the bigger picture in prospect.” The turbanator said as quoted by the Indian Express. He also argued that the players are not getting properly tested on the rank-turners. He said that Test matches should last for 5 days as it will serve as good Test for everyone.

” That will only happen on wickets in India where the match will go until the fifth day. That means everybody will get tested. Fast bowlers will bowl 30 odd overs, your spinners will bowl more overs, batsmen will bat long,” He added

Spinners have a role in overseas Tests

The off-spinner said that spinners are important if India want to be successful overseas. He added that if spinners take wickets in the middle overs they can be very useful to the team. The Punjabi spinner backed Indian spin twins, Ashwin and Jadeja and added that they can learn fast and prove to be an asset for the Indian team.

Hopefully, both the spinners (Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja) will learn fast and convert their magic into winning streaks like what they have been doing in India,” he said.

Harbhajan Singh pointed out that spinners need to make an adjustment to perform well overseas. He argued that spinners need to be more patient overseas as the pitches are not as helpful as India.

“The conditions are so different in India. They hardly bowl 25 overs, they bowl just 10 and get five-fors. In South Africa, England you probably have to bowl 35-40 overs. You really have to work hard to get those five wickets,” he added.
