The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have not lived up to the expectations in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Though the team has won their last three matches, RCB’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs are still bleak. However, one player who has caught everyone’s eye in this season is the fast bowler Navdeep Saini. He has constantly clocked over 150 kph and has only improved with every game despite RCB not doing well.
Even Virat Kohli, the RCB skipper, rates Saini very highly and has praised him time and again during the season. Saini also made it to the standbys of India’s World Cup squad and he will also be travelling with the team to England. Though many raised eyebrows over his selection, Saini’s performances this season have justified it completely. On Wednesday, with dew settling in at the Chinnaswamy, the fast bowler delivered a game-changing 19th over in a high-scoring game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
KXIP needed 30 runs from the last two overs to chase down to 203 runs and given RCB’s record in the death overs, the visitors were the favourites as they also had wickets in hand. But Saini’s exceptional penultimate turned the scales in RCB’s favour. He conceded only three runs in the over while also picking two important wickets in David Miller and Nicholas Pooran.
Bhajji lauds Saini
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh who is playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL has lauded Navdeep Saini for his superb bowling this season. Moreover, he was also surprised that the talented fast bowler wasn’t picked in India’s World Cup squad which was announced last week. Bhajji took to Twitter to express himself saying, “#Navdeepsaini The more I see of him, the more I think why he is not there in the World Cup squad.”
Though Saini is not the part of the 15-man squad, any kind of injury to one of the bowlers will open up a chance for him and that might be the career-defining moment for him.
