Harbhajan Singh predicts Varun Chakravarthy will play for India

Varun was bagged by KXIP for a hefty price of Rs 8.4 crores.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is one of the biggest buys of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 auction. The Tamil Nadu cricketer, with all the variations he has got up his sleeve, managed to impress almost all the franchises. After an intense bidding war among five franchises, Varun was finally bagged by the Kings XI Punjab for a hefty price of Rs 8.40 crores.

Varun made headlines after his performances in the TNPL 2018. He bowled with the best economy in the series. Furthermore, he followed it up with a stellar performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018/19 as well. With 22 wickets, he ended as the second highest wicket-taker there. Soon enough, he was also picked in the Ranji side.


Harbhajan is highly impressed

Discarded Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has watched Varun bowl from close quarters. Ahead of IPL 2018, the 27-year-old was selected to bowl at the Chennai Super Kings nets. He was there with the team for a few days before the venue was shifted to Pune from Chennai.

Having watched all his variations, Harbhajan Singh went on to predict that he would soon play for India in a tweet that he put up soon after Varun was picked in the auction. Bhajji further wrote that the selectors must keep a close watch on him. Describing Varun’s bowling style, Harbhajan wrote that he is a fast and furious spin bowler and termed him to be a mystery bowler.

“Had a close look at him last year at CSK nets… This guy Varun Chakravarthy have the potential to play for INDIA.. selectors should keep an eye on him. He is a fast and furious spin bowler. Another mystery spinner,” wrote Bhajji about Varun Chakravarthy in his tweet after the latter was sold in the auction.
