Deepak Chahar is coming back home to the Chennai Super Kings where he had attained superstardom as a cricketer. However, it was not at all easy for the defending champions as they were involved in an aggressive bidding war with multiple teams at the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction including the likes of the Delhi Capitals, 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad and the inaugural edition winners Rajasthan Royals before CSK outbid each and every one of them to bring back the bowling all-rounder for a sum of INR 14 crore.

The Chennai Super Kings had decided to retain skipper MS Dhoni, last year’s Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad, star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and English all-rounder Moeen Ali for IPL 2022. At the two-day event in Bengaluru, the Chennai-based franchise has yet again retained their old players Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa and now Chahar as they look forward to rebuilding the team and taking their legacy forward.

IPL 2022: Deepak Chahar’s performances in the marquee tournament

Chahar was roped in by the Yellow Army during the IPL 2018 mega auction and since then has gone on to represent them for four seasons, having bagged 58 wickets at an economy rate of 7.7.  He was also instrumental in Chennai’s two title wins in the 2018 and 2021 editions respectively. Chahar had first burst onto the scene in the IPL during the 2016 edition where he had represented the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant for two seasons before being roped in by CSK.

It seems that the 29-year-old who has been in the CSK skipper MS Dhoni’s scheme of things in the last four seasons is yet again in his plans for the 15th edition as the title-holders have yet again decided to bring him on board. Apart from his ability to generate swing early on, Chahar is also known for his batting skills in the middle-order and had nearly helped India pull off a famous win against South Africa with a quickfire 54 in the dead-rubber third ODI last month. At the same time, the pacer is also the CSK’s most expensive buys at the IPL 2022 mega auction so far.
