Rohit Sharma’s captaincy debut didn’t exactly turn out the way he’d hoped for. The Indian team succumbed to an embarrassing defeat against Sri Lanka in the ODI opener after a horrific Indian batting collapse. However, the dynamic opener took charge of the captaincy reigns and made amends for his failure in the 1st match with a sensational double hundred. Following his impeccable batting display, the 30-year-old also became the only player to have three double centuries in the limited-overs format.

Even as cricket fans and cricketers across the world pay tribute to India’s stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma after his blistering double century in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Mohali on Wednesday, all-rounder Hardik Pandya reserved the best compliment as he said that lightning did strike for the third time at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

Taking to Instagram, Hardik wrote: “Lightning does not strike twice? Well, it struck for the third time yesterday! Congratulations @rohitsharma45 for scoring your 3rd ODI double century. I am glad to share this special moment with you.”

Rohit Sharma breaks a host of records

Rohit just took just 36 balls to reach his second hundred and in the process, he broke a number of records, propelling India to a massive 392 runs. Rohit became the highest scorer for India at the PCA Stadium in Mohali beating Virat Kohli’s 154 which he made against New Zealand in 2016.

This is also the highest team total for this ground with the previous best being that of South Africa against the Netherlands in the 2011 ICC World Cup. India’s previous best team total on this ground was 321 against Pakistan in 2007. Rohit’s 213-run second wicket partnership with Shreyas Iyer is now the highest for India on this ground, with the previous best being 173 runs between Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir against Pakistan in 2007.
