Dismissing Virat Kohli was the only highlight of the day for Essex pacer Paul Walter as he struggled to get the ball into the right areas later in the day. He was bowling at Hardik Pandya this time and the Indian allrounder took a leg-stump guard looking to go big as usual. Walter bowled it at his pads very full and he flicked it towards square-leg, Pandya immediately wanted a run but his partner wasn’t exactly sure.

There was a fielder placed at square-leg and Dinesh Karthik didn’t know if it was worth the risk. However, there was a misfield and in the end, proved to be an easy single. Pandya mid-way through the run stopped with disgust as his partner wasn’t convinced about the run whereas he thought it was a pretty easy single. He even gestured that while walking to the non-striker’s end. He completed the run almost walking through the 22 yards.

Pandya was batting on 20 from 21 delivers then. Karthik who faced the next ball also playing with a leg-stump guard got a short ball in the zone, which gave him an option to open his arms and hit it wherever he wanted in the ground; he chose to pull it. It was too short and the keeper-batsman dispatched it for four towards square-leg which is the longest boundary on the ground.

He had a mid-pitch talk with Pandya as the ball raced towards the boundary. DK tried to pacify his agitated partner, to defuse the situation.

Here is the video of the incident:

The mistrust between the two isn’t new, in the last Test against Afghanistan in Bangalore Karthik was run out on 4 and the one running with him then was Pandya. He had pushed the ball and set off for a single but the non-striker wasn’t quite interested. DK had to run back towards his end and put in a desperate dive, but he couldn’t ground his bat and was run out after playing 22 balls.
