International cricket is finally returning to India with the four-match Test series against England set to commence on February 5 in Chennai. But the atmosphere in the country is not so great with a lot going on around the ongoing Farmers Protest. The matter blew up after several international celebrities like singer Rihanna, climate activist Greta Thunberg among many others took the protest to a global stage.

This didn’t go down well with the celebrities in India including cricketers who took to social media to state that it the country’s internal matter and one shouldn’t speak about it knowing half-truths. The Indian Government also released a statement urging the ones talking about it to have a proper understanding of the issues before using the sensationalist social media hashtags and commenting on the matter.

Even as Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli among many other Indian cricketers opined that the country should stay together during these difficult times and try for an amicable solution in the matter. Like his teammates, even the all-rounder Hardik Pandya came up with a tweet stating that the country will always be stronger together.

Hardik Pandya’s support to Black Lives Matter

However, soon after Hardik tweeted this, Twitterati started trolling him calling out him for supporting the Black Lives Matter campaign during the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. The death of George Floyd in the USA had eked out reactions from all over the world, Hardik Pandya was the only one to support the BLM campaign openly during the IPL.

Many had lauded him at that time as well. But with him tweeting about the recent matter hasn’t gone down well with many it seems. Twitterati has linked both the matters and have started trolling the Mumbai Indians cricketer.  Meanwhile, even Hardik Pandya is gearing up for the upcoming Test series against England which also marks his comeback in red-ball cricket. It remains to be seen if he is included in the XI for the first Test in Chennai.

Here are some of the trolling tweets:
