With the auctions for the IPL 2021 round the corner, the excitement is only increasing and with that, the speculations. A few weeks ago, teams retained and released a few players and the released players will now be in the auction pool. With the list of players released, the mini-auctions will surely be intriguing.

Some of the big names were released and will now be in the auctions, whereas some new entries will also have their chance to play the Indian Premier League. Big names who will be in the auction pool include Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Harbhajan Singh, James Neesham, Steve Smith, Sheldon Cottrell, etc. Among the teams, Kings XI Punjab have the biggest purse, with 53.2 crore in the bag. They are expected to make some big buys during the auctions.

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell always enjoys his time at the auction thanks to his antics while playing for his country every now and then. But somehow, he has failed to replicate it in the IPL over the years. Despite that, the franchises bid fiercely for him in the auction and the cricketer ends up getting a whopping contract.

In the IPL 2020 auction, Kings XI Punjab signed Maxwell for a huge amount of INR 10.75 crore. But he couldn’t even hit a single six throughout the tournament and was criticized by many as well. However, once again, he has managed to gain his form back and looked in amazing touch even in the BBL while playing for the Melbourne Stars.

It goes without saying then that the franchises might go for him yet again in the auction as KXIP has released him. The teams can only hope that Maxwell delivers for them as he is a match-winner on his day if he finds form at the right time. Expect Maxwell to be amongst the expensive players again.
