Punjab CM awards Harmanpreet Kaur Rs. 5 lacs cash prize

Kaur struck form at the right time recording 282 runs in the last three games of the tournament.

Indian batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur is the talk of the town ever since she blasted her way to an unbeaten 171 against the defending champions Australia in the semifinals of the ICC Women’s World Cup. With the help of her rollicking innings, India made it to their first World Cup final in 12 years as they floored Australia by 36 runs.

Kaur’s 171* is the fifth highest score recorded by a batter in Women’s ODIs. It was also the highest score by an Indian cricketer in the Women’s World Cup. The right hander struck 20 boundaries and 7 sixes in her 115-ball knock. Following her outstanding performance the other day, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday announced a cash reward of Rs 5 Lacs for the 28-year old.

According to a PTI report, the CM conveyed the news of the reward to the father of Kaur: Harmandar Singh, whom he called up and even congratulated Singh for his daughter’s success. Kaur also played a big hand in the ongoing World Cup final where she played a fighting innings of 51 to get India on track in a chase of 229.

CM proud of the Punjab born star

Amarinder Singh also tweeted soon after Kaur played the innings of her life. He was proud of the Punjabi to help India qualify for the finals. He wrote: “Proud of Punjab’s daughter @ImHarmanpreet Kaur for steering India into the Women’s Cricket World Cup final with a superb performance!”

Kaur also played a crucial knock of 60 against the Kiwis which paved the way for India’s entry into the semifinals. Prior to the last three games, Kaur was having an ordinary World Cup campaign with a highest score of 24*. She turned around her run of low scores by producing three back-to-back magnificent performances to get India on track for a possible World Cup win at the Lord’s Stadium in London.
