The Indian T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur has followed the footsteps of her teammate Smriti Mandhana and will be featuring in the upcoming edition of the Kia Super League. She will be featuring for Lancashire Thunder in the tournament and has signed the contract with the franchise. As of now, only two Indian players have been signed with the league set to commence on July 22.

Kaur was recently involved in the Asia Cup T20 which was won by Bangladesh. She led the team admirably well and was also adjudged the player of the tournament for her all-round exploits. Though her hard-hitting skills came to the for against Australia in the World Cup last year when she tore apart the bowling line-up in the semi-final and helped India cruise to the final. Her 171-run knock shattered records even as the Women’s cricket in India got a completely new direction.

When will she leave India?

According to the reports in ESPN Cricinfo, Harmanpreet Kaur has inked a contract with Lancashire Thunder and will leave for the United Kingdom on July 15. She has the experience of playing in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) as well and it will be interesting to see the way she fares in the T20 tournament.

Interestingly, she will be the part of the team coached by Alex Blackwell who recently retired from international cricket and is all set to embark on her maiden coaching assignment. Also, Kaur had to miss the last edition for Surrey Stars due to the injuries sustained during the World Cup.

Her inclusion in the squad must have given the much-needed boost to Lancashire as they had finished the previous season at the bottom of the points table. They are scheduled to kick off their campaign on the first day of the league itself against Loughborough Lightning at Southport.
