Pakistan’s newest pace sensation, Hasan Ali, is acing it all lately- be it during the matches for Pakistan, or the record for the fastest to reach 50 wickets, surpassing even the legendary Waqar Younis, or becoming the leading-wicket taker in ODIs in 2017, or being the only bowler with 3 five-fors in the year
The right-arm pacer’s 5/34 in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka was instrumental in the Pakistan side getting an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the 5 match ODI series, making it the bowler’s third fifer of the year, the most for any bowler in 2017. It was followed up by another devastating performance in the 4th ODI where he contributed with 3/37. Rumman Raees was impressive in the first match where he registered 3/49, however, he could only scalp one wicket in the other two matches he played.
Most impressive in Hasan Ali’s case is the fact that he has leapfrogged the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Mitchel Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Imran Tahir and occupied the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI bowlers rankings. He has 43 wickets this year, which still miles ahead of Liam Plunkett’s (36) and Adil Rashid’s (26) wickets each in the year.
To add to his collection of achievements, he also won a fun pad-up challenge against fellow pacer Rumman Raees. In a Facebook video posted by the Pakistan Cricket Team, he displayed his physical prowess as he easily beat Raees in 1 minute 2 seconds, while Raees was not too bad himself as he padded in 1 minute 16 seconds. Infact, Hasan could have finished it much faster had he not forgotten his gloves. Rumman Raees to became a little laidback after he saw that Hasan was far ahead of him in the challenge. We can also see a brief cameo from Ahmed Shehzad who is seen cheering the two while they are competing against each other.
