Haseeb Hameed breaks an 110 year old record on debut against India

England’s debutant Haseeb Hameed broke an 110-year-old record in his debut match against India in the 1st Test at the SAC Stadium, Rajkot. The 19-year-old opener had an impressive debut in the opening test of the five-Test series which ended in a draw. The 19-year-old Hameed, who made 31 and 82 in two innings, registered the highest score by an English teenager in Tests. The previous best was 74 by Jack Crawford, against South Africa, in 1906. This statistic was tweeted by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

On Sunday, the fifth day of the Test, right-handed batsman Hameed scored 82 runs in the second innings as England declared at 260/3 to set a 310-run target for India. Earlier, in the first innings, he made a fluent 31 before falling to Ravichandran Ashwin. He was at ease facing the Indian bowlers in unknown condition and on a two faced track where there was uneven bounce initially.
The right-handed batsman who has origins in India impressed is seen as a long-term prospect for England in the five-day format. Labelled as a typical Test match player, he was handed Test debut in Rajkot after a record-breaking county season with Lancashire. He has played 21 first-class matches with 1,568 runs at an average of 49 including 4 hundreds and 10 half centuries.
