Before the start of  Royal Challengers Bangalore fixture against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, skipper Virat Kohli made a shocking revelation that he hasn’t touched Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani, a staple diet for any North-Indian, in three years. Kohli made this disclosure in the pre-match show.

Coming from a Punjabi family and an avid foodie, Kohli’s dedication towards fitness is remarkable as he has given up the two highly popular meals. A few years back, citing his bad habits and unhealthy lifestyle, the 28-year-old decided to work on his fitness and gave up all forms of unhealthy food by adopting strict protein diet.

He stated in an interview that his metabolism is designed in such a way that it causes double the harm than normal. Therefore, he had to quit junk food and other fatty food, which include Dal Makhani and Butter Chicken. Instead of rice and chips, he intakes protein rich diet such as wheat crackers, salmon, lamb chops and sushi. A few reports also suggest Kohli only drinks imported mineral water from France which cost a whopping 35 grand for 12 packs.

“Since 3 years I have not eaten (butter chicken and dal makhani). I understand what is more important,” said Virat Kohli. His coach from his childhood days, Rajkumar Sharma, revealed his love for butter chicken and rolls. But as he is the leader of the team and a top cricketer in the country, he has to set an example for the team not only on-field but also off the field.

“Kohli once told me, if I don’t set the benchmark as captain, who else will? Even as the world looks on in wonder, I know the boy behind the man. He used to gorge on butter chicken, rolls and all sorts of fast food. But today, it finds no place in his diet,” said Rajkumar Sharma according to One India.

“In fact, he is so particular about his diet, that even when he comes over to my place, he won’t have packaged fruit juices. You either give him fresh juice or you don’t. Carbohydrates are a strict no-no and there are no off days in his routine anymore,” added Kohli’s coach.

However, he secretly cheats on his regime with a bowl of Rajma Chawal, which a famous Punjabi dish comprising of Kidney beans and rice.
