Salman Butt feels Indian skipper Virat Kohli is just a game away from breaking his century drought soon. The 31-year-old last scored a century in November 2019 and has since then not gone on to convert his starts into big hundreds. Former Pakistan captain feels Kohli is in the right frame of mind and will soon score his 71st ton.

Butt also lauded the Indian skipper’s achievements and feels that what Kohli has achieved in his 13-year career is phenomenal and rated him highly. The Indian skipper usually sets a high benchmark and is often the one who tops the run-charts for most of the years. A small blip in form is already making people criticize Kohli, which Butt feels is wrong.

The former opening batter, while speaking in his YouTube video, was asked whether ‘Virat can cross his mental barriers at ICC events like World Test Championship and T20 World Cup’. Butt responded saying ‘Why not?’ as feels that  Kohli will surely bounce back and get a hundred against New Zealand in the final of World Test Championship that starts on June 18 in Southampton.

Salman Butt optimistic about Indian captain Kohli scoring a ton soon

“He’s broken so many barriers already. Who could have thought that a boy in his age will get 70 centuries? Who would have that he would become as fit as he is today, or carry the kind of form that he has? He has a strike rate of 90 in chases, an average of over 50 in all three formats. Who would have thought? These are barriers he’s already crossed. Who can stop him from crossing this barrier? In fact, he can do it in the next match or the next series itself,” Butt said.

Of late, Kohli has struggled to score big in crucial matches of ICC events. In the past two matches, the 31-year-old has scored five and one against Pakistan and New Zealand respectively. Kohli would surely love to reverse the trend and silence his critics as India aims to win the final of the inaugural WTC and the five-match Test series to be played against England later.
