Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has opened up about his chemistry with skipper Faf du Plessis, emphasizing the fact that he has respect for the senior South African player. Kohli also stated that at times du Plessis denies his suggestions on the field but he respects that.

It may be noted that Kohli had stepped down as the captain of RCB after the end of IPL 2021. As a result, the Red Army purchased the veteran South African batter at the IPL 2022 mega auction and handed the leadership role to him. At present, RCB are placed fourth on the points table with seven wins in 12 matches. Meanwhile, the RCB skipper du Plessis has been among the runs as well, scoring 389 runs in 12 matches so far, which includes three fifties.

Faf is a guy who is sure of himself: Kohli on Faf du Plessis

“Faf (du Plessis) and I have always gotten along well even when he was captain of South Africa. Faf is a guy who is sure of himself and he has full authority on the field,” Virat Kohli said during a casual chat with presenter Danish Sait on RCB Insider.

“He tells me sometimes, if I mention things, that he doesn’t want to do that, which I respect a lot. That only makes you gain respect for the person you are playing under,” the star batter added.

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old also hinted that former RCB superstar batter AB de Villiers might return to RCB camp and will be seen in the coaching capacity in the next edition. The right-handed batter had been a vital performer for the team in the past. However, he retired from all forms of cricket last year.

“I miss him a lot. I talk to him regularly. He was in the US recently with his family watching golf… He is keenly observing RCB and hopefully he will be here next year in some capacity,” Kohli said.

RCB will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next group stage encounter at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on May 13 (Friday).
