Veteran Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings batter Robin Uthappa becomes the latest addition to the ever-growing Virat Kohli bandwagon as the 36-year-old lashed out at the former Indian skipper’s critics and stated that no one has the right to question the batting superstar’s position in the Indian team.

Kohli’s abysmal form with the blade is no secret to anyone, and he has been the subject of criticism for his lack of form by many cricket experts. But the elegant Indian batter has also found support from various cricketers and ex-cricketers, even from across the border, as Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and former speedster Shoaib Akhtar backed the Indian batter to emerge from this treacherous lean run.

The 2007-T20 World Cup winner, Robin Uthappa, questioned the criticism of Kohli and said that nobody was advising him on his batting technique when he was scoring centuries for fun, so they have no right to tell him how to bat after scoring 70 international centuries. He backed the star batter’s abilities and said he will register another 30 or 35 centuries playing and believing in his own abilities.

“When he (Virat Kohli) was scoring runs, when he was hitting hundred after hundred, nobody said he should play like this or that. Now, I don’t think we have any right to tell him how to play. He has scored 70 hundred thanks to his own abilities, and he will score another 30 or 35 also on his own abilities,” Uthappa said, speaking on ShareChat’s Audio Chatroom session.

Virat Kohli is a match-winner and he is the best in the world: Robin Uthappa

Kohli registered just 45 runs across four matches in the white ball series against England, and with the emergence of Deepak Hooda, his spot in the team has been questioned. But Uthappa believes the Indian star deserves the right to take a break from cricket if things aren’t going right for him as he is a proven match winner and the best in the world.

“If he feels it is fit for him to take a break, then he can take a break. He is a match-winner, one of the proven match-winners, and he is the best in the world. We have no right and authority or no ground to stand on and question his ability to win matches or question his position in our team,” Uthappa added.
