Pakistan’s International side is slowly resurrecting thanks to many teams willing to play on their home soil. Of all the people who are incredibly happy to see this progress, Mickey Arthur reckons he’s eagerly waiting for big teams to come and tour Pakistan. Arthur is the head coach of Pakistan and has a big role with the World Cup just a year away from commencement.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday and reckoned their country is very close to hosting big teams like South Africa, England or Australia in the times to come. He reckons the passion and excitement of the locals in Pakistan was a huge boost for their players and after hosting World XI, Sri Lanka and the West Indies, he says the door is wide open for other countries as well.

“The colour, the passion, the excitement for our local people to see cricket there was amazing and for our players to play in front of their fans and families and just play at home was amazing. We’ve had a couple of those now — the World XI, Sri Lanka and now the West Indies. They were great occasions so let’s hope that opens the door for a lot more cricket in Pakistan,” He said.

“It’s a little bit early to get too controversial,” said a smiling Arthur when asked if Pakistan could exploit the “weakness” of an England top-order featuring captain Joe Root. “I saw Dawid Malan play exceptionally well in Perth…we know Root is world-class, (Jonny) Bairstow is world-class, they are a really good side.”

Amir is our No. 1 bowler and we’ll back him

Arthur also heaped praises on Mohammad Amir, the youngster who has been performing incredibly well in recent years. Amir is also a slightly injury-prone cricketer and considering a fact that they have only 3 weeks off in the next one year, he said it’s important to manage his fitness as well.

“He’s our No. 1 bowler, we back him in tough situations. We need him to get the ball swinging, we need him to get his length slightly fuller, and if he gets that he’s going to ask a lot of questions. We only have three weeks off on our calendar now before the World Cup,” Arthur said. “So we just have to manage them because ultimately we want the best team to play in that 2019 World Cup.
